Penarth Tourism - The Garden by the Sea

HOW TO GET HERE

BY CAR
:  Take the M4 Motorway from either London or the South West of England, continue on to Junction 33 and then turn off onto the A 4232 signposted to Penarth. Follow the signs and in 10 minutes or so you will be in Penarth Town Centre. There is plenty of free parking in and around the shopping areas, as well as along the Esplanade and seafront.

BY COACH:  National Express coaches run regularly from London Airports (Heathrow LHR and Gatwick LGW) and these go direct to Cardiff (Sophia Gardens) Coach Terminal. National Express coaches also run from central London (Victoria) to Cardiff. Here you can get an inexpensive taxi to either the Rail Station (Cardiff Central), with frequent trains to Penarth until late evening, or directly to Penarth, if you prefer.

BY TRAIN:  This is the ideal way of getting to Penarth from around the UK. Trains run from London (Paddington) to Cardiff Central at least every hour, taking just 2 hours 10 minutes.
From Birmingham, there are hourly trains to Cardiff, whilst from Bristol and Bath there are a number of services through to Cardiff.
At Cardiff Central change to Platform 7 for the Penarth train, which runs every 15 minutes throughout the day, and every 30 minutes after 1830 hrs. Please ensure you buy a "Through Ticket " from your first station, and if returning after your stay, buy a "Return Ticket".

Pasengers from the Birmingham and Bristol areas may need to change at Bristol Parkway on some services, but can get direct trains on alternative routes, These will be quicker and possibly cheaper. Ask your agent about these services.

BY AIR: Cardiff Airport is located just 20 minutes (10 miles) drive from Penarth. There are regular scheduled services to Amsterdam, Scotland and Dublin, with other services to Spain, Portugal and the the "Costas". The airport can be contacted on 01446 711111.

BY LEISURE TRIPS: More and more tour companies are running "Day Trips" into Penarth and beyond. These are inexpensive and give you plenty of time to explore ""The Garden by the Sea" and the wonderful heritage of this town. Ask your favourite Tour Operator or Coach company if they are running trips to Penarth. If not, why not !

AND WALKING !   Yes, many people are walking into Penarth these days. With the 870 miles long "Wales Coastal Path" running through the heart of the town and seaside, more and more walkers are choosing to stay in Penarth and then travel on to more distant places, east and west. You can access Penarth via the Pont-y-Werin (People's Bridge) Bridge, or across the amazing Cardiff Bay Barrage with its Salmon Pass and triple boat locks. Either way brings you into a resort full of unique shops, dozens of cafes and restaurants and, better still, somewhere to put your feet up for the night !
